Zero Waste Pig Production (ZWaP) videoshoot of the eFARM GROW project under the eFARM ACADEMY – a CHED-funded project

eFARM Academy        December 13, 2021

eFARM GROW (Generate. Reap. Opportunity. Wealth) under the program eFARM Academy showcases the eight (8) existing food and agriculture technologies developed by Central Luzon State University namely: Zero Waste Pig, Vertical Farming, Organic-based products, Mushroom Production, Aromatic Rice, Hybrid Rice production, Aquashade, and Goate Production.

The project team together with the technology’s resource person, Dr. Antonio J. Barroga, conducted the video shoot of the first agricultural technology to be showcased, Zero Waste Pig (ZWaP), last December 9, 2021 at the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice). The technology is an odorless farming system the converts pig wastes into alternative fuel (biogas) and organic fertilizer for crops.

Project team together with Dr. Antonio J. Barroga (third person from the right) on the ZWAP farming system set up at FutureRice Farm, PhilRice, Maligaya, Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, Philippines.

Dr. Barroga stated that three of the most perceived problems in the Swine Industry are the presence of flies (langaw), stinky smell, and non-complaince to the regulatory standards of DENR. With these, solutions have been found through ZWAP.

"Waste is simply an unmanaged resource. Indeed ZWAP is a reality”, he emphasized.

The activity was spearheaded by its Program Leader, Dr. Gella Patria L. Abella, alongside the Project Staff, Mr. Seth Vincent M. Valdez, Dr. Mercedita M. Reyes, and Ms. Ma. Johanna J. de Dios, with the Research Assistants, Mr. Nolly F. Isip, Ms. Venus DR. Ragasa, Ms. Eloisa A. Mariano, and Mr. Che Lean Cabico.
