eFARM Academy

3rd Agri-fishery Technology cascaded at Anao, Tarlac

eFARM Academy        July 5, 2022

On July 5, 2022, a capacity building on Organic-based Onion Production was conducted at Brgy. Suaverdez, Anao, Tarlac and was attended by 25 participants. In lieu of the late Dr. Jonathan L. Galindez, the lecture and hands-on training were delivered by Mr. Melchor P. Pascua, Community Affairs Assistant at RM-CARES and the newly designated eFARM GROW Project Staff and Resource Person.

Onions are one of our country’s most important crops. Most of the growers depend on chemical inputs to ensure a high yield. However, the persistent use of chemicals poses threats to the environment, particularly to soil health. In this scenario, alternative farming practices that are ecologically sustainable were developed to promote soil health, ensure sustainability of production, and ensure the stability of the environment.

Hands-on training on organic fertilizer production, preparation of fermented oriental herbal nutrient (OHN) using yellow ginger and hot pepper, and preparation of fermented kakawate extract was conducted to capacitate the participants on various organic inputs they can use for soil fertility management or for pest control.

Simultaneous with this activity, Mr. Neal Del Rosario visited the beneficiaries of goat production and conducted a fecal collection of their ruminants for analysis in the laboratory.

The eCourse module on Organic-based Onion Production is already available for enrollment on our website (www.efarm-clsu.com). Enroll now ka-eFARM and start exploring, learning, and earning through the eFARM Academy.
