Zero Waste Pig (ZWaP)

An odorless farming system that efficiently converts pig waste into alternative fuel (biogas) and organic fertilizer for crops. It directly addresses environmental concerns over hog production, as well as growing demand and awareness for more effective waste management and reduction.

One of the smart farming concepts piloted at FutureRice Farm under the joint collaboration of CLSU and the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) that started in January 2018.

Dr. Antonio J. Barroga, Consultant on Swine Commodity,
National Animal Nutrition Program Consultant, National Dairy Road on Feed Resources

Dr. Barroga is a Professor VI from the Department of Animal Science, College of Agriculture, Central Luzon State University, Science City of Munoz, Nueva Ecija. He handles graduate and undergraduate subjects for the BS Agriculture and MS and PhD in Animal Science degree programs of the College of Agriculture.

His present research interests are namely: rice duck farming system, zero waste poultry and livestock farming and animal nutrition.

He finished his one- year stint post-doctoral fellowship from the National Livestock Research Institute in Suwon, Korea from 2005-2006 with joint experiments involving the investigation and mitigating measures of malodors from poultry and livestock barns.

His dissertation from the Kyushu Tokai University, Kumamoto, Japan from 1998 to 2001 involved the feeding value of fish silage for ducks and growing lambs.

At present, he is the College Extension Coordinator and also the Department Alumni Coordinator and International Internship Coordinator.
